Preventative Care
Heartland Veterinary Clinic provides a full range of preventative care services to help your pet live a longer, happier life and to increase the odds of detecting problems before signs appear and before they become severe and costly. The earlier potential issues are detected, the more favorable the outcome.
Dr. Sanborn makes his annual preventative care recommendations based on the guidelines established by the American Veterinary Medical Association and American Animal Hospital Association. Our team then customizes his recommendations based on your pet’s hereditary factors, age, medical history and lifestyle. After discussing your pet’s needs, we will customize a preventative health care plan, including a comprehensive physical examination, nutritional recommendations, flea and tick treatments, heartworm preventative medication, intestinal parasite screening and control, vaccination schedule and specialized blood tests based on life stage, including annual heartworm testing, and other basic pet care products.

Pharmacy and Nutrition
Heartland Veterinary Clinic offers a well-stocked in-house pharmacy of both prescription and over the counter products to keep your pet happy and healthy. For your conveneince, most medications are available for immediate dispensing. For over the counter medicine, such as flea and tick prevention, you can drop by the clinic at your convenience and pick up what you need. Many prescriptions can easily be refilled when needed. For your convenience, please contact the clinic at least 24 hours before you need a refill of your pet’s medication. We may need to get a refill authorization from the doctor before filling the prescription. Other products available include: Veterinary Diets, Science Diet and Hill’s Prescription Diets, Purina

Surgical Care and Services
We understand that many pet owners are curious about what is involved when their pet is placed under anesthesia. At Heartland Veterinary Clinic, your pet’s safety and comfort is a top priority. So whether your pet is coming in for a routine spay procedure, a biopsy, orthopedic surgery, or emergency surgery, we do our utmost to provide your pet with high quality surgical care in a stress-free and relaxing environment. Because all pets react differently to anesthesia, we evaluate each pet and recommend pre-anesthesia procedures to increase the safety of anesthesia.
Emergencies
Emergency visits are welcome during our normal clinic hours. Please call us at 309-266-5306 for immediate assistance. In addition, we use the services of the Tri-County Animal Emergency Clinic for after-hours emergencies. Tri-County Animal Emergency Clinic is fully equipped and staffed to give your pet after-hours professional medical emergency care. If we determine that your pet requires overnight nursing care or a level of specialty we cannot provide here, we will coordinate your pet’s referral to the appropriate critical care or specialty hospital. Dental Cleansing and Procedures
Dental health is an extremely important component of your pet’s well-being. When home care is not enough, Heartland Veterinary Clinic is able to provide thorough, affordable dental care. We provide veterinary dental services including routine cleaning and polishing (dental prophylaxis) and surgical extractions to manage and treat severe oral disease conditions. Heartland Veterinary Clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art oral surgical equipment and the latest technology to provide your pet with a safe and (advanced) dental procedure. We will provide you with an ongoing treatment plan to ensure your pet’s teeth and gums are well cared for all year long.
Radiology
During pet dental or surgical procedures, knowing exactly what is happening inside the pet is critical. Our radiology system enables us to take clear x-ray images of your pet with rapid efficiencies so it is less stressful for your pet. We are able to shorten the path from diagnosis to treatment, which leads to better health outcomes. This is particularly critical when your pet needs emergency care. When your pet needs emergency care or any other kind of in-depth, precise diagnosis, it is critical that the diagnostic tools used by your veterinarian are precise and fast. We want to do everything we can to provide your pet the care he or she deserves.
Ultrasonography
We offer state of the art small animal color doppler ultrasound of the heart (echocardiography) and of the abdomen. With abdominal ultrasound we can see the bladder, kidneys, gall bladder, lymph nodes, blood vessels, abnormal fluids, pancreas, tumors, adrenal glands, uterus, and stomach, intestines and beating fetal hearts. Echocardiography (ECG) allows us to see the heart in real-time while it is working. From these images we can see how well the heart is pumping, whether the heart muscle is too thin or thick or whether the heart chambers are enlarged. Blood clots, leaky valves, abnormal fluid around the heart and heart defects can also be seen. For a complete cardiac workup, we transmit the echocardiogram, blood pressure, EKG, and chest radiographs for interpretation and treatment recommendations by a veterinary cardiologist. Ultrasound has been an invaluable diagnostic tool for us at Heartland Veterinary Clinic and enables our patients to get advanced care without travel to a specialty center. Dr. Sanborn has been trained in ultrasound for rapid evaluation.
Sick and Injured Care
HVClinic-kitties3At Heartland Veterinary Clinic, our primary focus is on keeping your pet happy and healthy. Unfortunately, some pets occasionally experience illnesses or injuries that require a veterinarian’s care and attention. If your dog or cat is experiencing an illness including, but not limited to, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rash, loss of appetite or lower energy level, our team and facility are here to diagnose and treat your pet. We are also equipped to help your pet recover if it has sustained an injury such as a bite wound, lameness or trauma from an accident.
Hospice/Euthanasia
Knowing when to say goodbye is always a difficult and painful decision, and we will work with you to help you know when the time is right for your pet and your family. When the time has come we work with clients to ensure their pet’s comfort and dignity. We offer both general and private cremation services.
Laboratory Services
Our modern and well-equipped clinic enables us to provide quality veterinary care to our patients and dedicated service to our clients. Our in-house diagnostic laboratory allows us to access a variety of tests that can help correctly diagnose and treat your pet’s problem. During an emergency, your pet needs to be diagnosed and treated as quickly as possible. Our in-house laboratory and well trained technical team is capable of performing tests and obtaining results within minutes to a few hours. Once your pet’s laboratory results are in hand, our veterinarian and technicians can begin your pet’s treatment immediately. In addition to our in house laboratory, we often utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations. Often results are available the following day.

We are proud at Heartland Veterinary Clinic to have a complete range of diagnostic tools on site to serve you better. Accurately diagnosing pet health problems allows us to begin treatment quickly, which offers you confidence and a greater peace of mind knowing we’re doing everything possible to treat your special friend.
